Niels de Feijter, commercial manager for passenger cars and Arno Ophorst, manager for used cars, both for Van Tilburg-Bastianen, were initially quite sceptical about Japiecars. They have now embraced Japie and even discontinued use of their old data system.

Niels: ‘The first conversation that we had with Japie left us with mixed feelings. We were already using data systems, our turnover rate was high, and there were no demonstrable problems. So there was nothing that we needed Japie to solve. Even so, we were hearing a great many positive stories via word of mouth.’

Arno adds: ‘We were indeed satisfied with our used-vehicle valuations. Despite that, we soon found out that we could improve profitability substantially in purchasing and trade-ins of used cars. A car that Japie assigns a marketability score of 4 or 5 to is really quite hot in the market. Another advantage is that, thanks to Japie, we have a great deal of information available when purchasing other brands. We are now a great deal more active in selling those as well. The Internal Turnover Rate (ITR) and the External Turnover Rate (ETR) scores from Japie have become highly relevant within our organization.

By enriching import lists with data from Japie, we can also accurately calculate the taxes that will be levied. That means we know for a foreign auction exactly what the costs are and the potential margin in combination with the marketability score from Japie.’

Arno: ‘In addition to the substantial advantages of Japie we’ve mentioned, Japie’s accessibility and response time are exceptionally good. If I send an email at 21:30, I get a response at 21:40. And I am extremely impressed with the implementation phase. Work is constantly being done to make Japie even better. We have now discontinued use of our old data system. Japiecars namely offers the complete, optimal package.’

About Van Tilburg-Bastianen

In 1934, Mr Van Tilburg and Ms Bastianen took over a small garage, in downtown Breda. After WWII, in 1947, they acquired the Volkswagen dealership. As the need for (professional) goods transport, in addition to personal vehicles, increased, a separate company was established. This company focused on services related to company vehicles, and in particular for the DAF brand (dealer since 1950). In the 1960s, the Van Tilburg-Bastianen Groep acquired the Audi dealership. In 2007, the DAF dealership in Poland was also added.
From a small garage, the company has now grown into a flexible, innovative and trend-setting international organization with six operating companies providing services for automobiles and trucks. In the West-Brabant region, Van Tilburg-Bastianen, with 5 locations, is the mobility provider.
The shares in the Van Tilburg-Bastianen Groep are held by the Bastianen family, and the involvement with the company is still high.
